TECHNICAL BULLETIN No. 2 of 1997 January 16, 1997 TO: FSSA Members FSSA Technical Committee FROM: Charles F. Willms, P.E. Technical Director SUBJECT: FSSA SAFETY ALERT dated Oct. 28, 1993 ______________________________________________________________________________ Information received from the Halon Alternatives Research Corporation indicates that serious unsafe practices are still occurring during handling, packaging and transportation of Halon containers designated for agent recycling. This includes charged containers being shipped with anti-recoil and/or safety caps missing, with actuation devices still attached, etc. In the interest of public safety, FSSA has issued the following Safety Alert dated October 28, 1993. FSSA grants permission to reproduce this Safety Alert. If you are a Designer/Installer, please distribute these documents to your service personnel, as well as to your customers and request that they distribute to their end users. If you are a Manufacturer, please distribute copies to your Designer/Installer customers (especially those that are not FSSA members) and stress the importance of having them distribute copies to their service personnel and to their customers. FSSA also plans to contact NAFED, FEMA, Inc., CGA, NFPA, NAVSEA, and the USCG; and request that these organizations circulate the FSSA Safety Alert through each of their own distribution networks. Safety is the responsibility of everyone. This requires continual diligence, education and training, so that safe work habits become second nature to all parties involved. Thank you for your cooperation in this effort. enclosure: FSSA Safety Alert (October 28, 1993) FSSA Technical Bulletin No. 2 of 1997 January 16, 1997 page 2 fssa0497.doc 4/25/97
