FSSA Inspection and Test Guide (P/N CSG-02) - Second Edition , July 2007

FSSA published this document to provide a quick reference to the fire protection specialist and other personnel involved in the service, maintenance, inspection, test, and requalification of fire suppression systems containers.

“The FSSA Inspection and Test Guide gives essential insights into the meaning of the DOT and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) regulations as they apply to fire suppression system cylinders,” says FSSA’s Technical Director Tom Wysocki.   “It is a ‘must read’ for those persons who inspect special hazards fire suppression systems.”

The information contained in the guide is limited to:
• The applicable DOT 49 CFR regulations, as applied to inspection, test, and requalification of DOT containers used in fire suppression systems
• The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), service and maintenance requirements for containers found in the following NFPA Standards (latest edition):
NFPA-12, Standard on Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing Systems
NFPA-12A, Standard on Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing Systems
NFPA-17, Standard for Dry Chemical Extinguishing Systems
NFPA-17A, Standard for Wet Chemical Extinguishing Systems
NFPA-750, Standard on Water Mist Fire Protection Systems
NFPA-2001, Standard for Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems
• The applicable Compressed Gas Association (CGA) publications

The new Inspection and Test Guide contains Safety Alerts and Advisories and Container Data as well as Container Requirements.

This new publication supersedes the first edition of this document published in October 1996 as the “Guide for Service, Maintenance, Inspection, Test, and Requalification of Fire Suppression System Containers.”

Copies are available for FSSA members at $75.00 plus shipping and handling; for non-members, the price is $249.00 plus shipping and handling. To order a copy, click here for an online order form.
