President's Message

The FSSA 2017 Annual Forum was monumental and commemorative in many ways. This year, FSSA celebrated its 35th anniversary, honored Roger and Carolyn Bourgeois for perfect attendance at FSSA Annual Forums, logged record attendance, and had its First Annual Whiffle Ball World Series game.

In recognition of its 35th anniversary, Coral was chosen as the celebration emblem. This was quite appropriate for our 35th anniversary given the correlation between coral reefs and FSSA. Coral reefs start small and grow larger because of groups added overtime.

FSSA was founded in 1982 by Bernie Bishoff, George Keely, Cal Clemons, Waltaer Morgan of Kidde, George Grabowksi of Fenwal, Dave Francis of Ansul and Chemetron, Bill Eckholm, Ralph Hiltz, and Charlie Ford of DuPont. The first FSSA Technical Committee meeting was held in 1983 in Chicago. The FSSA's Education Committee was established in 1985 where Jim Boyer served as Chair. Overtime additional committees (groups) have been added including: Membership, Codes and Standard Oversight, Marketing, Public Policy and several subcommittees.

I’m extremely honored to serve as president of FSSA. It is with great expectation and excitement that I look forward to advancing the work by our predecessors and putting plans in place to ensure FSSA’s future success and growth.

My primary goals for FSSA in 2017-18 are:

  • Develop a short and mid-term strategic plan.
  • Relaunch S.H.A.P.E.
  • Collaborate with other trade associations in a way that strengthens FSSA.
  • Enhance internal and external communication.
  • Provide CEUs for attendees of FSSA Technical Committee meetings.

Since February, we have become closer to finalizing dates during the 2017 third quarter for a strategic planning session with a consulting firm; put finishing touches on the updated S.H.A.P.E. presentation; met with NAFED to discuss synergy between our organizations; and expanded social media to include Instagram. So be sure to follow FSSA on Instagram.

No organization can achieve 35 years of success without individuals giving their time, knowledge, talent and energy in a selfless matter for the good of an organization. Such are the members of FSSA. Thank you to everyone who serve to help make FSSA the recognized industry leader on fire suppression systems.

Any suggestions to help us achieve our stated goals will be greatly appreciated. Suggestions that are submitted and utilized by the Executive Team will be considered for formal recognition. Please send your ideas to becca@clemonsmgmt.com.

I’m blessed and grateful to be a servant-leader of this auspicious organization. My goal is to continue to build on the shoulders of our previous presidents and leaders through PEG: Promote FSSA, its member services, publications, guides, and online training; Educate the market on the importance of fire suppression systems; and Grow our membership and influence.

It’s Show Time!

Best regards,

Helen Lowery
